This short, to-the-point eBook answers once and for all why a republic is a much more stable form of self-governance than a democracy. It contrasts the key differences between these two forms of government in a side-by-side comparison which is especially easy to understand. This eBook is a great reference guide when you need a quick refresher on any question concerning the fundamental differences between a republic and a democracy such as

• What is a Republic?
• What is representative government?
• What is the difference between a Democracy and a Republic?
• Did our founding fathers choose a Democracy or a Republic as the new form of government for the American colonies?
• What are the advantages and disadvantages of a Democracy vs. a Republic?
• Why is a Republic harder to overthrow than a Democracy?
• What are the dangers of a Democracy?
• Why is a Republic considered representative government at its best?
• And most importantly, why are the differences between a Democracy and a Republic key to what’s going on right now in the United States?

Know once and for all the differences between a Democracy and a Republic, and why you should care.

What is a Republic is one of three eBooks in the Restoring the Republic series. Make sure you check out the other two eBooks as well!

What Is A Republic? Representative Government At It Best Restoring the Republic Series Book 1 edition by Rebecca Jarrell Politics Social Sciences eBooks

The synopsis above says it all...short and to the point. How short? It took me about 5 minutes to read the whole thing. Basicly, the entire book is 2 charts comparing the democracy to the republic, with a few paragraphs of explanatory text. At 4 bucks, I didn't expect much, but I still feel ripped off...it's about equal to a pamphlet you might get t a political rally or a classroom handout.

Still, there's a certain beauty in it's simplicy, and if you honestly don't understand the functional difference between democracy and republican governance, but are to embarassed to ask, this will answer that question for you. Might also be good for homeschoolers to explain it to their kids or as a springboard for a termpaper.

Myself, looking for a simplified explanation that I can parrot when arguing with idiots, and I did get that. A very well chosen quote by Thomas Jefferson gave me some bonus ammunition. Did I actually learn anything? Me, no, but I know a few people who could (the aforementioned idiots I argue with.) Is there any information in here that could not have been found for free? Absolutely not. Do I resent paying 4 bucks for it? Not really, because it was a quick way to settle an argument that should never, ever, arise among educated americans.

It is what is...it's called "what is a republic" and the answer is inside. Packaging it as a standalone volume, when it's substantially no more than a foreword to greater text (like the next in the series - which I bought but didn't read yet) was essentially a cheap trick...but hey - free enterprise, capitalism, caveat emptor - you pay your money and take your chances. I did get exacly what I was looking for, and no more. Your mileage may vary.

This book was ok, but it should have went a little deeper. It's a good book for those who are beginning to wake up to the importance of having a Republic. I give it 3 stars because the book is a quick read, but I don't regret buying it because the topic is of extreme importance.
